The Issues

The Issues that Matter

There are many issues that matter to the people of Michigan and especially in the new 5th Senate District (after redistricting/2020 census). The issues that need to be addressed now may be different than the ones just a few short months ago and as they may change in a few months from now, please reach out and talk to us.

Emily and her campaign team welcome the opportunity to talk with our neighbors so we are sure to understand what matters to you.

Your Welfare

Emily understands what it takes to raise a family. She understands what happens when you lose your job through lay-off or economic changes and the stress if can cause and the effort needed to do what is needed to keep joy in the house while keeping a roof over your head, the lights on and food on the table. She also understands what it takes to pull yourself up by your boot straps and get going again, learn a new skill, work on your personal development and become stronger through the faith and perseverance of never giving up.

Emily also understands what it's like to be in a position to help others with the blessings she has been afforded.

Emily will work tirelessly for her neighbors so that opportunities and 2nd chances remain high. She will also use her fiscally conservative nature to discover ways to keep or put more money in the pockets of the residents of Michigan, through reduced taxes or readjusting spending to prevent new taxes.

Additionally, Emily knows how important it is for our children to be educated and that the laws that explain parents' rights in that education. Emily will continue her work to preserve the parents rights in family, education and healthcare.

Your Safety

The first role in government is to provide safety for it's citizens. That safety is in the form of rights and freedoms to speak, worship, defend your family, assemble, equal protection, and justice. Emily has worked hard to understand the value of safety for her family, employees and neighbors and she has and will continue to fight for the ability for every resident to live in safety. Safety for one person cannot mean lack of safety for another--there must be equal levels of safety for all the citizens of Michigan. We do not need new definitions of safety, rather we need to look at our Constitution and ensure that people are following and applying the rules and laws well.

We do have the right to worship and live differently than our neighbor--we do not have the right to impose or disallow another's rights for ours. Emily will continue to uphold that truth.

Every elected officeholder and every public servant takes an oath to do no harm and to defend our state and nation from all forms of tyranny and terrorism, both domestic and foreign. Emily will stand up to those who would bring harm to others.

Your Peace

Peace comes from trust--trust that those serving and working for you will continue to look after you and others, not work for their own personal agendas. Emily's experience in corporate America and in running her own company has given her a unique perspective that she will bring to Lansing. She is not afraid to speak up and be strong so that the residents of Michigan can focus on the issues they need to and not always feel they have to babysit the elected officials they hired.

Economy/Business

As a small business owner myself, I understand small business is vital to our economic growth. I will work to support small business and increase employment opportunities equally.

Transparency

My job is to serve the people of my district and Michigan. As such, they deserve to know what the issues are and what and why the decisions were made the way they were. I will be sure all my decisions and votes are well-researched and I understand what the residents of my district want and will provide an explanation for every vote I make.

Healthcare/Mental Health

I believe stress and anxiety are taking a toll on our health in ways we cannot allow and in some cases cannot even see the repercussions of. I want to help all people understand how important the care of both their physical and mental health is. I will continue to defend and support individual choice in their health, while having education and scientific options.  I will work to see mental health a preventative service to prevent illness.

Sanctity of Life

I believe we are called to serve and speak for those who cannot speak for themselves. This is simple--life begins at conception and ends at a natural death. People at every age, in every condition must have an advocate. I will work to preserve this truth equally for all.

Guns/2nd Amendment

The constitution allows all citizens the right to bear arms. I understand the 2nd Amendment is what allows us to have the 1st Amendment (free speech). I will support to defend and uphold the right for law-abiding citizens to maintain gun ownership and the right to defend their family and property.

Justice System

Our law & justice system is a critical part of the peace we have in our state. We must have a system that truly serves and protects the people, and applies the law fairly and equally. We must have a system that does not allow for corrupt individuals to take ahold of it. I will work to defend this important 3rd tier of government and bring trust that this system really will prosecute wrongdoing while providing opportunities for 2nd chances.

College Attainment

I believe every citizen needs the equal opportunity to advance their education beyond their high school years. I will support common sense approaches to providing and allowing anyone the opportunity to further their education and become an asset to their family and community.

Roads

Having good roads is important to the people and our economy. I do not believe the answer is to raise taxes. This is where digging deep into how money is being spent and where will show we need to rearrange a few things. I will support creating an infrastructure that provides the ability to move around our glorious state on roads that do not cause unnecesary damage to cars and trucks.

Education

Our children need to be educated equally, regardless of zip code, at a level that allows them the greatest opportunities for choice in becoming productive citizens. We must ensure all our children and future generations are well-rounded in all subjects. I will defend and support the Michigan State Law, Revised School Code:
"It is the natural, fundamental right of parents and legal guardians to determine and direct the care, teaching, and education of their children. The public schools of this state serve the needs of the pupils by cooperating with the pupil’s parents and legal guardians to develop the pupil’s intellectual capabilities and vocational skills in a safe and positive manner. "
